CLEANING YOUR PROPERTY TO SELL

Cleaning your home to sparkle in the eyes of the buyer is one of the easiest ways to increase your property value and sell your home quickly. In the eyes of the Buyer means focusing on often-overlooked areas that the buyer might not notice if clean, but will be distracted by if not clean. Making sure the front door is free from dust and leaves, and clutter free countertops make a big difference.

IF YOU DO ONLY ONE THING: Clear kitchen counter-tops

THE FRONT DOOR - The Most Important Step:
▪    sweep up cob webs & leaves
▪    clean door and side-windows of fingerprints, dust & dirt
▪    put large mat or rug at front door for buyer shoes (this is especially important during rainy or snowy seasons)

THE KITCHEN:
▪    no dishes in the sink
▪    scrub kitchen sink, faucet and around sink (1/2 cup white vinegar + 1 cup water is my go-to for this task. If the smell bothers you try adding 10 drops of peppermint essential oil)
▪    clean & organize refrigerator- even if not included in sale
▪    clean stove top- even if not included in sale
▪    remove all unused small appliances, bowls & baskets from countertops
▪    clean garbage & recycling bin - try to put out of sight when possible

THE BATHROOMS:
▪    remove all toiletries from counter-tops
▪    clean garbage bin - try to put out of sight when possible
▪    hang towels & bathmat nicely
▪    in most cases, leave shower curtain open
▪    clean & organize drawers and under-sink area

THE LIVING & DINING ROOMS:
▪    keep tidy
▪    remove visual distractions from surfaces (ex. remote controls & tissue boxes)
▪    wash front window if visually dirty or dusty

THE BEDROOMS:
▪    vacuum
▪    organize closets to be “half full” if possible, this allows people to see how much space there really is
▪    closets look best when everything is hung in same direction
▪    keep nightstands & dressers free of visual distractions (toiletries, jewelry)

THE BACKDOOR:
▪    sweep up cob webs & leaves
▪    clean door and side-windows of fingerprints, dust & dirt
